Getting Tnto The Flow...

Greetings to all. Thanks for all the comments, its nice to hear from you guys! Keep them coming :).
Well I think I am getting into this teaching thing pretty well. The 3rd graders are the toughest, they kinda just run around and it takes them forever to remember stuff. I´m trying to pound them with the alphabet but it still isn´t catching on yet. Usually they all yell Profe (short for profesor or teacher) and ask me totally irrelevant questions from what i am trying to teach them. Its frustrating and yet hilariously cute. I have a lot of respect for their profesora who is with them everyday 5 days a week. The 7th graders are my favorite class to teach, they understand and like to learn what i am teaching them, they some of the closest friends that i have ;). but they keep me on my toes because i have o prepare a lot for them each class, they are definitely keeping me on my toes. There is definitely a lot of joy in teaching, all the kids love me and love to talk to me, so that makes it fun. And the kids want to learn, that helps a lot!
This week i have also been helping out in the biblioteca, (library) it hasn´t been much really, all i have to do is help kids get books and make sure they don´t take them out of the library. They all love to talk about me while i sit at my desk, usually reading or trying to figure out what they are saying about me. Las profesoras have been very helpful and welcoming.

Some days i´ll find are just better or worse than others. Some days i´ll feel a bit discouraged about the language or other things, other days will be great and i´ll remember all the reasons i wanted to stay here for 4 months. I have been praying that God would show me to some more friends. But the last few days i think i have realized that the lack of friends is my own fault more than anyone else´s. When your overwhelmed and worrying about teaching or things you tend to not be able to be yourself and its no wonder nobody talked to me. But now i have my classes and students who i have been able to talk to more, the youth group is starting to open up to me, more because i have opened up to them. But the most encouraging thing happened to me tonight while i was walking back from the school. Two guys on motor cycles stopped me and asked me if i spoke English, they wanted someone to practice with! It turns out they were students of Ramon, the English teacher who teaches high school and older and who also helped me. So they are gonna call me so e can meet some time to practice their English and i can practice my Spanish. You never quite know how God will answer prayers, be he always does! Please keep praying for me! That's all for now...

En Cristo,
Dan

  1. Hey Dan,
Great to hear that you're adapting to teaching really well. :) Hopefully the 3rd graders will start to listen a bit more! Lol
The story of the guys on the motorcycles is pretty cool. :) God does answer prayers, doesn't he?
And it's really great that you're making friends, too. :) Without getting to know people and befriending them it's hard to really stay focused on a mission I find. Maybe it's different for you, but friends are definitely good!
I'll definitely keep praying, and I'm sure that you'll have even more answers to prayer in these next few months, because we serve a God who hears every prayer and answers them.
